How to Keep Optimal Health Through Fall 2020

Now that winter is setting in, it's all the more important to take care of our health and well-being! Our health is multi-factorial ... the physical part of our body, the emotional aspect of our mind, and the chemical part of our metabolism. And they interact too! Taking care of our physical body not only influences how we hold our body and symptoms we may feel like pain, but it influences how we react to everyday life and how we feel overall. What we eat and what we consume also influences physiological and mental processes in return.

When the seasons change, our habits change too, and the body tries to adapt to them. We change physical activities, we adapt what we eat, and the circadian rhythm fluctuates! When we are cold, our posture changes, we contact the shoulders, and we don't breathe as deeply. The body responds to all these changes that we don't consciously think about.

So to prepare for this approaching winter period, a regular visit to your Chiropractor will help you take care of all the factors of life: physical, emotional and chemical. With these three parts of wellness at full strength, your system can run on full cylinders to combat all of the challenges during this time!

I look forward to seeing you very soon at the office,

Megan

Symptoms are like a fire alarm for underlying problems in your body.  Chiropractic puts our not only the alarm, but the fire as well!

Symptoms Can Be Just the Tip of the Iceburg...

When I see a lot of you in the office, we catch up on life activities, how you are able to fulfill the activities that you love, but a lot of our discussion centers around symptoms or pain that you may feel.  Knowing your symptoms, as well as orthopaedic tests, the physical examination, and what I can feel with my hands, help me to discern what is actually going on "under the surface" on a functional level in your body.

"RunTime" Analysis with Jean-Christophe Begnatborde and Clayton Chiropractic

Clayton Chiropractic is organizing some exciting partnerships this fall! With Jean-Christophe Begnatborde, a passionate podiatrist in Sallanches, and his "RunTime" treadmill, we carried out clinical trials for an afternoon. We invited two athletes (a trail runner-cyclist and a skier-climber-trail runner) from our valley to analyze imbalances during strides on the mat. After the initial analysis, the participant received indiscriminate chiropractic treatment, meaning I did not see, and was not aware of, the results during the RunTime test. After the chiropractic treatment, the participants returned to the mat to re-analyze dozens of factors, such as the pressure under the feet, the balance of the pelvis, or the support time on each foot.

The results were amazing! After the chiropractic treatment, both participants had overall improvements on the factors measured! You can see the results below!

Thank you, Jean-Christophe, for sharing! To do again!

If you are interested in doing a RunTime and Chiropractic follow-up to analyze and improve your performance, do not hesitate to contact me (+33 7 66 47 57 85) to organize the appointments!

... and AFTER the adjustment!
Mindfulness and Yoga classes at Chamonix Hospital in Addictology
Together with the addictology department and Dr. Caroline Sander, we have started to set up Mindfulness and Yoga classes for the residential programs of the Chamonix hospital. Participants of a one-month alcohol cure all year round are invited to take discovery yoga classes.

I really enjoyed our first class, where I had the pleasure of sharing the basics of the connection between the physical body and the mind - how mastering one's physical and emotional reactions can help release tension. The course was also well received. I can't wait to continue this project with Dr. Sander!

Stay careful during Covid-19

We have incorporated changes to the procedures at the HESTIA Center, and we remain vigilant! I will continue to disinfect all surfaces, wear a mask and respect barrier gestures, even outside the office, to ensure safe care.

I installed a HEPA filter in the cabinet for the winter to keep the cabinet warm AND cool!

This is a long-term practice. Please always bring your mask to your appointment.

Quick Tip... Did you know?

Take advantage of these 6 weeks of curfew:
Ideas for a new evening routine from 9 p.m.

9:00 p.m. Turn off the screens! Blue light can inhibit naturally occurring melatonin surges. Give yourself a little time to respond well to messages so that you don't think about it until the next day.
9:10 p.m. Take a warm bath with Epsom salts. Raising the body temperature helps calm the body. Epsom salts (which you can buy at a drugstore or over the internet) help relieve the joints and muscles.
9:30 p.m. Drink a chamomile herbal tea to calm your mind even further, and it also hydrates you! In the evening, avoid alcohol, the consumption of which can disrupt sleep.
9.45 p.m. Use a notebook to write down everything you need to do the next day. This way, you can get ready to go to bed in peace. If you read before you fall asleep, try to stay in a sitting position with your back straight to avoid tension and for a better position of the rib cage for better breathing. Hold the book in front of your eyes to read more efficiently, and to avoid flexing the back of your neck.
10:15 p.m. Do simple yoga stretches to prepare for sleep. Releasing tension helps naturally turn into a calm mode to prepare for sleep. (Examples: Child Posture, Lying Down Position with Spinal Twist, Sleep Goddess Posture, Happy Baby Posture)
10:30 p.m. Cover your eyes with a sleep mask, and go to bed for 7 to 8 hours of sleep (we sleep a little more in winter!). A sleep mask will block all light from outside. Even low background light can disrupt cycles of melatonin which controls sleep cycles. In addition, be careful to go to bed just before you fall asleep. This helps our brain by signaling to fall asleep.
